One of the longest running UK loyalty programmes gets a revamp

Tesco UK introduces new contactless Clubcard

Launched in 1995, Tesco UK’s Clubcard was easily the defining point in the retail loyalty revolution. As with any successful loyalty program it was championed by its senior executives, and critical to its success, Tesco’s Clubcard database provided the grocer with unprecedented insight into the shopping habits of Tesco’s most loyal customers. Tesco has always strived to be innovative and its recent introduction of a host of new features to provide a more frictionless experience for Tesco shoppers is testament to its commitment to loyalty.

The new Clubcard includes many new earn partners added to a list already 400 partners strong, as well as deploying a team of 2,500 “Clubcard Champions” to help in-store shoppers understand the changes.

Chief Customer Officer Alessandra Bellini, quoted from the company’s press release:

“Tesco Clubcard is one of the most uniquely helpful things we do and it’s our way of saying thank you to our customers for shopping with us. We’ve listened to customers and we’re delighted to have made Clubcard even simpler and easier to use, introducing a brand new contactless card, an upgraded Clubcard app, and added to our list of partners too. Clubcard is the most rewarding loyalty scheme in the sector and we’re looking forward to seeing how customers respond to the improvements.”

The new Clubcard allows members to earn points on purchases instantly, and the mobile app allows new customers to join Clubcard immediately upon downloading the app, and existing customers to access their vouchers immediately at the point of sale.

It is worth noting that these functions and many more have been available through Tranxactor’s Thor system for many years. Find out more about Tranxactor’s capability to integrate with point-of-sale systems, and the ability to offer real-time allocation and redemption of rewards and vouchers.
